Dune: Awakening is an MMO action game with survival elements. The events unfold on Arrakis, the central planet of the iconic universe created by Frank Herbert in his novel Dune. Players will explore a vast open world, gather resources, build bases, and combat the many dangers of the desert, including gigantic sandworms.
The game features a unique storyline that doesn’t replicate events from the books or movies, allowing players to immerse themselves in an alternative version of this captivating universe. In Dune: Awakening, players can interact with others, form guilds, and impact the political landscape on Arrakis.
Key Features of Dune: Awakening
In the open world of Dune: Awakening, players can traverse endless deserts, abandoned cities, and secret corners of the planet. They can move on foot or utilize ornithopters—flying machines familiar to all Dune fans. Base-building will also play a vital role as shelters protect players from sandstorms, worm attacks, and enemy raids.
As in the novels, spice is the central element of the universe. It’s not just a resource; its consumption unlocks new abilities, albeit with the risk of addiction. Additionally, players can band together in guilds, trade, or engage in PvP battles in designated zones.
Classes
The class system in Dune: Awakening will define each character’s initial abilities and set the gameplay style, yet players will still be able to learn skills from other archetypes. Four classes will be available at launch, each inspired by the lore of Dune:
- Trooper: A frontline warrior who specializes in aggressive combat. The Shigwire Cable ability allows for rapid movement or attacks, making Troopers ideal for dynamic battles.
- Mentat: These tacticians and analysts can use Battlefield Calculation to scan the environment, gaining crucial intel on enemies, which is invaluable for strategic gameplay.
- Swordmaster: Focused on melee combat and defense, this class has the Deflection skill that activates a stance reflecting attacks, making them a reliable choice for duels and defense.
- Bene Gesserit: Relying on cunning and control, this class uses the Voice: Compel ability to manipulate enemies, paving the way for battlefield manipulations.
As gamers progress, they will learn to combine abilities from different classes, creating unique builds. Developers also plan to introduce new archetypes, with skills to be learned from various masters scattered across Arrakis.
Release Date and Editions
Dune: Awakening will launch on May 20, 2025. At launch, the game will only be available on PC, followed by releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Owners of the Deluxe and Ultimate editions will have early access starting on May 15, five days before the general release.
Three editions of Dune: Awakening are available for pre-order:
- The Standard Edition costs approximately $30 and includes the basic game, along with a base decoration “Terrarium of Muad’Dib” and a global skin “Sunset” for armor, vehicles, and weapons.
- The Deluxe Edition, priced at around $40, contains everything from the Standard Edition, four DLCs, and five days of early access.
- Finally, the Ultimate Edition is available for approximately $50, including all previous content and exclusive items.
