Edifier’s gaming soundbar pairs compact desktop audio, spatial processing, RGB lighting, and a detachable mic for just $52.

A headset can make a gaming desk feel sealed off from the world. The Edifier Hecate G2000 Bar takes the opposite approach: open speakers, a built-in microphone, and enough gaming-focused hardware to make ditching the headset seem surprisingly reasonable.

The Return of the Desktop Gaming Soundbar

Gaming soundbars had a brief moment in the spotlight during the late 2010s, then quietly slipped behind the monitor stand. Lately, though, the category has started creeping back into view. That makes sense. Not everyone wants ear cups pressing against their head for a six-hour session, and not every desk has room for a pair of traditional speakers.

Сайт Hecate G2000 Bar arrives as Edifier’s particularly affordable answer to that renewed interest. It’s a compact desktop soundbar designed to sit beneath a monitor, providing game audio while keeping voice chat available through its detachable microphone.

The launch price is set at 349 yuan, roughly $52, beginning October 16. That figure is described as introductory pricing, reduced from the regular 387 yuan price, or approximately $58. At that level, the G2000 Bar isn’t trying to replace a full home theater system. It’s aiming at the player who wants cleaner desk audio without turning the setup into a small furniture project.

A Small Bar With Mecha Energy

The first thing that caught my attention is the styling. The G2000 Bar has an angular, mecha-inspired shape that looks more at home beside a gaming monitor than beneath a television. It’s available in black or white, and its compact footprint should help it fit into the familiar battleground of keyboard, mouse, monitor stand, and an assortment of cables that somehow multiply overnight.

A built-in five-degree upward tilt directs the sound toward the listener instead of firing it flat across the desk. That’s a small design decision, but it’s the sort of thing that can matter with a low-mounted soundbar. Audio aimed at your knees is rarely a thrilling experience.

Edifier also includes five interchangeable themed stickers for the front panel. They won’t transform the hardware, naturally, but they give the bar a bit of personality without forcing the entire room into a neon-lit gaming cave. The unit also includes 12 RGB lighting effects, ranging from rainbow patterns to flowing light animations.

Lighting controls are available through the Edifier Connect mobile app or Hecate PC software. I’m not completely convinced every desk accessory needs its own app, but at least the lighting can be adjusted rather than left permanently locked in one glowing pattern.

Two Drivers, Two Radiators, One Compact Box

Inside, the G2000 Bar uses two 56mm full-range drivers with copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils. They’re paired with two 60mm passive radiators, a configuration intended to give the soundbar more body and help reinforce lower frequencies.

Power output is rated at 3 watts per channel, for 6 watts total, with peak power reaching 12 watts. The stated frequency response runs from 67Hz to 20kHz. Those specifications suggest a speaker aimed at everyday desktop gaming rather than bass-heavy room shaking. There’s no separate subwoofer here, and that’s part of the appeal: fewer boxes, fewer cables, fewer opportunities to bump something with an elbow during an intense match.

Still, this is where expectations need a little discipline. A compact bar can offer fuller sound than tiny monitor speakers, but it won’t magically produce the physical low-end of a dedicated subwoofer. I initially wondered whether the modest power rating would make the G2000 Bar feel under-equipped, though the passive radiators should help it sound less thin than a basic pair of built-in display speakers. Without hearing it in person, I’d keep that judgment provisional.

Spatial Audio for a More Convincing Game World

The G2000 Bar supports THX 7.1.4 spatial audio processing. In practical terms, that’s designed to create a wider, more immersive surround-like presentation from a single desktop soundbar.

Of course, virtual surround is always a matter of tuning and placement. A label promising many channels doesn’t mean a compact bar suddenly contains a theater hidden behind the front grille. The room, desk position, game mix, and listening distance will all influence the result.

The six dedicated audio presets are probably more useful in everyday play. They’re designed for different kinds of games, including first-person shooters, role-playing games, and racing titles. Rather than manually adjusting an equalizer every time the genre changes, players can switch between modes intended to emphasize the needs of each experience.

That sounds convenient, especially for anyone who would rather play than fiddle with sliders. A shooter preset may prioritize positional detail, while a role-playing game mode could lean toward atmosphere and broader sound. The source details don’t specify exactly how each profile is tuned, so I’m reserving judgment on whether the presets are genuinely distinct or simply variations with dramatic names.

The Microphone Is the Real Party Trick

The most interesting feature isn’t the RGB lighting or even the spatial processing. It’s the detachable microphone mounted on top.

Edifier G2000 Bar with its detachable microphone visible

This is what makes the G2000 Bar more than a straightforward desktop speaker. The microphone uses AEC 2.0 acoustic echo cancellation, a dedicated digital signal processor, and AI-assisted noise reduction. Together, those systems are intended to reduce background noise and prevent the sound coming from the speakers from feeding back into the microphone.

That matters because open-speaker voice chat has one obvious weakness: your teammates may hear themselves bouncing back through your room. Echo cancellation is supposed to keep that from happening, while noise reduction can help limit distractions around the desk.

Whether it works smoothly will depend heavily on the surroundings. A quiet room is a much easier test than a busy space with a loud fan, a mechanical keyboard, and someone talking nearby. The technology is promising, but I wouldn’t assume it makes the microphone equivalent to a carefully positioned headset mic. The appeal is convenience, not studio-grade isolation.

There’s also a small quality-of-life advantage here. A detachable microphone can be removed when voice chat isn’t needed, keeping the bar visually tidy. It’s a modest touch, but retro hardware taught me that the best accessories are often the ones that don’t demand attention when you’re simply trying to play.

Bluetooth, USB, and Physical Controls

The G2000 Bar supports Bluetooth 6.0 and USB sound-card input. That gives it flexibility across compatible PCs, laptops, mobile devices, and consoles. USB should be the natural choice for desktop gaming, while Bluetooth makes more sense for casual listening or connecting a mobile device.

Power comes from an independent 9V DC adapter. That does mean one more cable on the desk, but a dedicated adapter should keep the compact bar from drawing all its power through a single data connection.

Physical controls sit on the metallic top panel. They handle volume adjustment, microphone muting, and audio-mode switching. I’m glad those controls are physical. Software is useful for lighting and deeper customization, but reaching for a mute button is faster than opening an app while teammates are waiting.

That metallic control panel also adds a little contrast to the otherwise futuristic shell. The result seems to balance practical desk hardware with the familiar visual language of gaming accessories: sharp lines, glowing accents, and just enough customization to make the product feel personal.

The Hecate G2000 Bar’s appeal is easy to understand. It combines several useful features in one small unit:
