A familiar adventure gets a new control scheme<\/h2>\n

Some games stay in your memory because of their mechanics. Others linger because of the feeling they created. Tomb Raider belongs to the second group: ancient ruins, echoing footsteps, awkward leaps, and that tiny pause before deciding whether Lara could actually make the jump.<\/p>\n

The original adventure made exploration feel unusually physical. Every corridor seemed to hide a puzzle, a trap, or a suspiciously convenient ledge. Thirty years later, 8BitDo is marking that legacy with two special-edition Tomb Raider controllers designed to make modern gaming hardware feel a little more like a collector\u2019s artifact.<\/p>\n

The pair includes the Ultimate 3 Controller for Xbox<\/a><\/strong> \u0438 Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad<\/a><\/strong>. Both are existing controller designs dressed in new anniversary artwork, but they take very different visual routes through Lara Croft\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Two controllers, two sides of Lara\u2019s legacy<\/h2>\n

\u0421\u0430\u0439\u0442 Ultimate 3<\/a> is the louder of the two designs. Its gold-colored finish is decorated with silhouettes representing Lara Croft across different eras of the franchise. Black controls cut through the metallic color, keeping the layout readable instead of turning the whole thing into a shiny display piece.<\/p>\n

The gold-plated zinc-alloy D-pad is the standout detail. It gives the controller a little weight visually, even before it is picked up. A matching charging dock carries the 30th-anniversary branding, which pushes the Ultimate 3 toward collectible territory. It looks less like a plain replacement gamepad and more like something that might sit beside a stack of old game cases.<\/p>\n

\u0421\u0430\u0439\u0442 Pro 3<\/a> is more atmospheric. Its design draws from Lost Valley, the jungle setting associated with the original 1996 game. The sandstone-colored shell uses vegetation, ancient symbols, and geometric patterns to suggest a weathered ruin rather than a polished piece of modern hardware.<\/p>\n

The matching dock continues that archaeological look, while interchangeable joystick caps let players alter the controller\u2019s appearance. I initially preferred the gold Ultimate 3 because it announces itself immediately. Looking again, the Pro 3 may be the more convincing tribute: its colors feel closer to the dusty, overgrown world that made the early games memorable.<\/p>\n

The technology beneath the nostalgia<\/h2>\n

The artwork may attract attention, but these aren\u2019t merely decorative gamepads with a famous name printed on them. Both models use TMR, or tunnel magnetoresistance, joysticks along with Hall-effect triggers.<\/p>\n

These magnetic sensing systems avoid the conventional electrical contacts found in traditional potentiometer sticks. That can reduce wear-related problems, including one common cause of stick drift. It\u2019s a welcome choice for anyone who has watched an idle character slowly wander across the screen as if possessed by an invisible compass.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s an important footnote, though. Magnetic sensing doesn\u2019t eliminate every possible mechanical failure. The controllers still contain moving parts, and no design can promise eternal life. That\u2019s a small but worthwhile distinction: improved durability is not the same as invincibility.<\/p>\n

What the Ultimate 3 brings to the table<\/h2>\n

The Ultimate 3 is built for players who want a broad set of adjustments. Its joystick tension can be changed, allowing a looser or firmer feel depending on preference. The Hall-effect impulse triggers also offer two travel-stop settings.<\/p>\n

A shorter trigger pull should suit faster inputs in shooters, while the longer setting offers more gradual control for racing games. It\u2019s the kind of flexibility that sounds excessive until you switch between genres and realize that your thumbs have been quietly making compromises for years.<\/p>\n
