PS5 controller design reaches collector territory with Razer’s magnesium-framed Raiju V3 Pro Signature Edition and its tournament-ready controls.

A Premium Controller With a Different Kind of Presence

Some gamepads try to disappear in your hands. Razer’s Raiju V3 Pro Signature Edition does the opposite. With its exposed polygonal frame, dark metallic finish, and limited production run of just 1,337 serialized units, this PS5 controller seems determined to be admired before it ever reaches a game of ranked matches.

The Signature Edition takes Razer’s Raiju line in a more collectible direction while keeping its focus on competitive play. The series began in 2016, and this model represents a decade of refinement built around speed, customization, and a distinctly high-end materials palette.

My first reaction was that the design looked a little too showy for a controller meant to be held rather than displayed. After looking closer at the construction, though, I’m less convinced that the visual drama is just decoration. The open structure appears to support the lightweight build, while the various surface treatments give the gamepad a more deliberate identity than another black plastic rectangle.

Magnesium Alloy Replaces the Usual Plastic Shell

The centerpiece is the magnesium alloy exoskeleton. Magnesium offers a combination of strength and relatively low weight, allowing Razer to build a premium controller without turning it into a small brick. The complete unit weighs approximately 260 grams, which is notably light for a performance-focused gamepad with this much hardware packed inside.

Instead of hiding everything beneath a conventional closed shell, Razer uses an open-polygonal top and back plate design. Chamfered edges soften the transitions between the angular surfaces, keeping the geometry from looking quite as severe as it might on a purely industrial prototype.

That exposed structure naturally raises a concern: will the controller collect dust and debris in all the wrong places? Razer addresses the issue with a protective nano coating intended to shield the internal components. I can’t say how that coating will hold up after years of sweaty sessions and the occasional snack break beside the console, but it’s a sensible answer to the most obvious weakness of an open design.

The result is a controller that looks closer to a carefully finished mechanical object than a standard living-room accessory. That distinction matters here because the Signature Edition isn’t only selling input performance. It’s also selling the pleasure of owning something that feels considered from every angle.

Small Details Make the Frame Feel Less Fragile

The premium treatment continues across the areas players actually touch. The handles use matte-black TPU grips with a micro-textured finish. They’re designed to resist oil and abrasion during long sessions, a useful promise considering how quickly glossy plastic can become a fingerprint archive.

At the center sits a semi-transparent, tinted glass touchpad. A laser-etched Razer logo allows the geometric structure beneath it to remain visible, turning a normally plain control surface into another window into the controller’s design.

The action buttons, directional pad, and secondary controls use double-shot PBT construction. That material choice is intended to resist fading and oil buildup, while the tone-on-tone markings keep the overall look restrained. There’s no rainbow lighting parade competing for attention; the visual language is darker, quieter, and more technical.

That restraint is welcome. A limited edition can easily wander into “display case first, useful object second” territory. Here, the materials appear to be doing more than adding a luxury badge.

The Controls Are Built Around Competitive Play

The heart of any performance controller is still the layout, and the Raiju V3 Pro Signature Edition sticks with symmetrical thumbsticks. Under those sticks are contactless TMR, or Tunneling Magnetoresistance, sensors. These are designed to provide accurate tracking while reducing the physical wear associated with traditional contact-based mechanisms.

That doesn’t guarantee perfect performance forever, of course. No controller escapes the laws of thumbs, dust, and repeated panic movements. Still, contactless sensing is a meaningful choice for players who want precision without relying on mechanisms that constantly rub against one another.

The controller adds six remappable multifunction buttons, two claw-grip bumpers, and four mouse-click-style back buttons. In practical terms, that gives players more ways to assign important actions while keeping their thumbs on the sticks.

That is especially useful in games where a tiny pause in movement can make the difference between recovering and staring at a defeat screen. Jumping, reloading, changing equipment, or triggering another frequently used action can be assigned to those additional inputs instead of requiring a thumb to leave its position.

The back buttons are also where personal preference gets complicated. Some players adapt instantly to rear controls; others spend the first few sessions pressing the wrong one with impressive consistency. The Raiju offers plenty of flexibility, but flexibility only pays off when the player is willing to invest time in configuring and learning the layout.

Wireless Performance Goes Beyond the Console

The Raiju V3 Pro Signature Edition is officially licensed for PlayStation 5 and optimized for PC. When connected to a PC through Razer HyperPolling Wireless, it supports polling rates of up to 2,000Hz.

A higher polling rate allows input information to be registered more frequently. That sounds like a small technical detail, and for many players it may remain exactly that. Still, competitive users tend to notice small differences in responsiveness, especially when a controller is being used for fast aiming or timing-sensitive actions.

The important point is that the feature doesn’t exist in isolation. The TMR sticks, extra buttons, adjustable triggers, and configurable profiles all point toward the same audience: players who want to shape the controller around their own habits rather than accept a fixed layout.

Customization is handled through Razer Synapse or the Razer mobile app. Players can adjust button assignments, thumbstick sensitivity, and trigger response, then save configurations to onboard profiles. That last part is particularly practical for anyone moving between setups, because the controller can carry personalized settings along instead of forcing a full reconfiguration every time.

There is, admittedly, a learning curve here. A controller with this many options can feel empowering one minute and faintly overqualified the next. The best setup may not be the one with every button mapped to something clever; it may simply be the one that removes a few awkward thumb movements and then gets out of the way.

The Accessories Turn It Into a Complete Kit

Razer is treating the packaging as part of the product rather than tossing in the usual cable and calling it a day. Each unit includes a premium leatherette carrying case, giving the limited-edition controller a proper home between sessions.

The box also includes alternative thumbstick caps:
