Today, we’ll dive into seven new LEGO Star Wars sets that will make you want to "lick your fingers" – they’re that appealing!

Introduction to the New Releases

In this wave, we have one standard set and an array of sub-series: a life-size figure of a new scale, another buildable droid, the next mini-model starship set, two new helmets, and a curious but controversial 18+ collector's item. We'll touch on the "Andor" series, classic episodes, the latest ones, the animated series, and more. Interested? Then let's jump right into the new releases!

75399: Rebel U-wing Starfighter

We're starting with the first and only "standard" set in the entire May LEGO Star Wars lineup. Of course, there’s also the Training Center on Kamino #75399, but that's an openly rare gift set.

This set is connected to the widely-discussed series "Andor," which I believe is the best recent product in the Star Wars saga. Neither "The Mandalorian" with its "roles in the bushes" and miraculous rescues, nor "Obi-Wan" with its rewriting of classic stories for pretty (not) pictures, can stand close to this dark sci-fi that hints at "realism." Therefore, sets based on Andor are indeed highly anticipated and much needed.

However, this particular set doesn’t revolutionize anything; it doesn’t even have the series logo. Essentially, it’s a "2-in-1" package: a playable scale starship and a battle pack with four figures. I rate this set as quite solid, but an absolute average. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 594 pieces, priced at $70.

75406: Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle

In every wave (January/May/Summer/seasonal, when there are additions outside the plan), the Star Wars series always includes one or two "Starship Collection" sets. These simple and obvious facts indicate the insane popularity of the "mini-format starships," despite the absence of minifigures. It also means that the series has almost limitless potential, as there are indeed dozens, if not hundreds, of different ships.

I believe this is a topic for separate discussion. Briefly: there is a high demand from fans for compact but adult models. Any collector (except for museum owners) faces huge issues with space, dust, decision fatigue, assembly time, and other similar challenges.

Regarding this set: unfortunately, Episodes 7, 8, and 9 are a reality; they haven’t been canceled as "non-canon," nor have they been reshot into decent versions of the beloved Saga. Thus, it’s hard to reconcile with this new strange world. A huge, black, grim shuttle that was flown by a hysterical character. The image is recognizable and will look good in a collection. So, it’s definitely going to appeal to collectors. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 385 pieces, priced at $70.

75407: Brick-Built Star Wars Logo

The first reaction from virtually every fan: "What’s this? I don’t need this!" Moreover, this is the "slot" for 18+ sets; how could this happen? Instead of a cool collectible – THIS. It’s just a pile of pieces!

However, if you look at the set with a cold heart, it has incredible potential. Perfect for ANY shelf with Star Wars sets from any series, sub-series, episode, or phase. It fits everything. Ideal for a Star Wars fan who reads books, goes to the movies, watches series, browses comics, plays games, etc. In other words, it will please everyone since the logo is canonical and evokes emotion. Even on a shelf in a bar among empty bottles, it will look attractive. This undoubtedly means that the set will be in demand. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 700 pieces, priced at $70.

75408: Jango Fett Helmet

Let’s move on to the helmets, which, like the "Starships," respond to the demand for "compact collectibles that won’t take up much space and can be assembled quickly." Another foolproof option: 1) The Mandalorian (they have lots of fans = money) 2) A classic character from Episode 2 (Attack of the Clones came out in 2002 and has become classic Star Wars).

For those who think this is a simple "recolor" of Boba Fett's helmet #75277 – you're mistaken! This is a "recolor" of The Mandalorian's helmet #75328. They just added a visor to the helmet. I’m not sure how to feel about this. Perhaps it’s not a very good trend (VERY similar sets with practically identical parts, but different colors). On the other hand, if there’s demand, why not produce and sell it? So, I leave the buying decision to the fans. "True" Mandalorian fans and the helmet series will definitely buy this. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 584 pieces, priced at $70.

75415: Kylo Ren Helmet

Another helmet set, this time for Kylo Ren, a character who was supposed to rise to the cult status of Darth Vader but ended up being a bland caricature. But we aren't discussing where I would have liked to see the Star Wars franchise develop; we’re talking about the LEGO set.

The helmet itself is quite nice. Judging by the details, they are printed elements rather than cheap stickers. The shape of the helmet is also new and unlike other sets in this sub-series. The downsides include the dull black color, but that’s a familiar trait for Star Wars. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 529 pieces, priced at $70.

75416: Chopper (C1-10P)

Here comes another droid to join the collection of Star Wars character models. Droids generally turn out to be pretty charismatic characters in Lucasfilm (or Disney?). Sometimes grumpy, sometimes self-satisfied, sometimes heroic, or cowardly. But every product, be it a movie, series, or animated show, must have a cool droid that adds charm.

This role was filled by Chopper in the "Rebels" animated series, and then in the "Ahsoka" series. Now we’re getting a buildable droid of compact size, along with a specifications plaque and a mini-figure of him. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 1,039 pieces, priced at $110.

75434: K-2SO

Another set from the "Andor" series, another life-sized character, and once again, a droid. Just Chewbacca and Grogu from the recent sets were "living" characters; the rest are all droids. The set isn’t overflowing with bright colors, which is typical for Star Wars, and we mentioned this earlier.

From a fairly modest number of pieces, we get quite a large model for our collection. The image is completely recognizable. Personally, I see no flaws. Release Date: May 1, 2025, with 845 pieces, priced at $90.

Conclusion: A Quick Summary

Interestingly, out of 12 sets in the May wave, we have: 2 brickheads, 2 buildable figures, 2 helmets, a Starship set, a polybag, a GWG set, a standard minifigure set, a UCS set, and an 18+ collector's logo. Are the old good mini-figure Star Wars sets fading into the background, or are the May waves focusing on collectors of various sub-series? It raises concerns about the future of the series. Additionally, it’s worth noting that of the seven sets today, five are priced at $70, with two being even more expensive. Overall, the May collection turned out to be quite pricey and substantial.
