Gex Trilogy Release Date and Platforms

If you’ve been missing that snarky gecko sporting cool sunglasses, your wait is finally over. The Gex Trilogy is officially making a comeback! The digital release is set for June 16 on all the big platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Physical editions will follow a bit later, but they’re definitely arriving this year.

Multiple Editions to Choose From

Waiting for the physical copies might sound a bit tedious, but hey, variety is the spice of life, right? The simplest option is the Standard Edition, priced at a modest $40. This version includes just the game itself—available on disc, cartridge, or as a Steam key if you’re a PC player. So if you love your physical copy, this one will satisfy that itch.

For those who don’t let dust settle on their shelves, there’s the Classic Edition at $75. This is where things get serious: a PS1-style box, a metal case, a double-sided poster, and a soundtrack CD—yes, an actual CD with Gex tunes!

The Ultimate Collector’s Dream: Tail Time Edition

If you’re a collector with deep pockets, the $200 Tail Time Edition is your jackpot. It includes everything from the Classic Edition plus a near one-meter tall inflatable Gex, an 18 cm tall gecko figurine, collectible cards, a badge featuring a remote control, and a uniquely illustrated box by Yoshitaka Amano—the very artist famed for his work on Final Fantasy. It sounds like an odd mix, but hey, these are interesting times.

What’s Inside the Trilogy?

Inside the package, you’ll find three games:

  • Gex: The original 2D platformer with a television-themed world.
  • Gex: Enter the Gecko: Transitioning to 3D with more sarcasm and even more TV channels.
  • Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko: Still 3D, still centered around TVs, now with a damsel in distress.

All games have been remastered using Limited Run’s Carbon Engine—a magic tool that breathes new life into classics for modern hardware. You’ll enjoy features like saving anytime, rewinding gameplay, and widescreen support (the latter applies to the 2nd and 3rd games only—progress, but with some caveats).

Extras and Bonuses

The menu offers a musical player, a media gallery packed with artwork and ads, plus a fresh interview with Dana Gould—the comedian who voiced Gex in the American version. Fun fact: in the UK, the gecko was voiced by Leslie Phillips and Danny John-Jules. So, everyone has their own Gex to enjoy.
