The World Eaters are back, and they’re packing a punch! As a passionate player of these fierce warriors, I've delved deep into the new Codex: World Eaters 2.0, and I'm thrilled to share the top five aspects that stood out to me. This fresh take on the beloved army breathes new life into battle strategies, making it an exciting time to be a fan of Khorne's followers. With the upcoming Challengers Cup in September, I can't wait to bring this revamped army to the competition!

5. Berzerkers Are the Backbone of the World Eaters

In the previous codex, players emphasized using as many Eightbound units as possible, creating a menacing wall of bulky models. While those hulking giants were formidable, this new book shines the spotlight on the Berzerkers, giving them a plethora of exciting rules to enhance their effectiveness. The newly updated Berzerker Warband allows them to be the only unit to gain the Advance & Charge ability, along with impressive Blood Surge movement options.

With units ranging from 10 to 20, these ferocious fighters are ready to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Their point costs remain unchanged from the codex to the official release, making it a bit tricky to fit in larger squads, but a Khorne Lord on a Juggernaut can boost their speed to 10”, turning them into a rapid assault force!

4. Both Daemon Princes Look Great

The Daemon Princes received a significant glow-up in this codex! The foot prince is a must-have due to its Lone Operative ability when near infantry units, the devastating wounds it inflicts with its Damage 3 weapon while charging, and its capacity to discount command points for nearby units. This combination makes it a robust addition to your force, especially alongside your Jakhals, Zerks, and Eightbound.

Meanwhile, the Winged Daemon Prince showcases impressive movement and offers fun Mortal Wound capabilities by flying over enemies. Imagine launching old-school strafing runs with these agile fighters as they dive in for Damage 3 attacks while covering a massive 14” distance. They’re sure to find their targets and deliver some serious pain!

3. Two Powerful Detachments and Interesting Daemons

This codex offers diverse army building without any fluff, which is a refreshing change. The updated Index Detachment mirrors the Blood Angels with a +2 strength and +1 attack on the charge. This makes for a powerful combination with the option to Advance & Charge for Berzerkers. Expect to see players make full use of this feature, with a solid mix of protection options and enhanced movement mechanics, even allowing units to stick to objectives after being taken down.

The Goretrack Onslaught is another strong option, pushing Zerks, Rhinos, and vehicles to the forefront. Units disembarking from transports receive a +1 to their charge and Lance abilities on melee attacks, making it a powerful combo. With an array of exciting stratagems, including the ability to disembark in different phases or move through terrain like it's nonexistent, this detachment opens up vast tactical possibilities.

The Possessed Slaughterband and Cult of Blood offer interesting alternatives. The Slaughterband enhances your Possessed models, giving them a blood surge mechanic called Brazen Fury when targeted. Coupled with a stratagem that boosts damage, this detachment could become a defining element of your army.

The Cult of Blood echoes the themes of worship around titanic monsters and vehicles. The Lord of Skulls has received a transformation that allows it to ignore terrain obstacles, fire more frequently, and speed up its movement to a staggering 12". While there's been a cost increase, the potential benefits of these colossal units buffing your Jakhals and Goremongers are too enticing to overlook.

2. Many Units Get Glow-Ups

This codex has revamped several units, and the Chaos Spawn is no exception! It now boasts enhanced speed, retains its Feel No Pain ability, can scout ahead, and delivers even more powerful punches. Many other units have also seen improvements, with higher attacks, better movement, and amplified damage potential. The World Eaters Land Raider is particularly impressive, featuring Rapid Fire 2 Lascannons, adding to its already formidable presence on the board.

When it comes to reliability, the Forgefiend stands out as the backbone of the army, equipped with Rapid Fire 1 Blast Plasma Cannons and a reroll for hits against the closest target within 18”. With its points remaining reasonable, it’s a prime choice for all World Eaters players looking to solidify their ranks.

The Helbrute also retains some powerful capabilities, able to strike back at any unit that targets it, provided it lands its hits. Coupling this with the new mechanics for piling in and consolidating can create a formidable dreadnought that can charge, deliver a flurry of punches, and retaliate effectively, all while maintaining a low point cost.

1. Blessings Feel More Brutal, The Army Has a New Vibe

One of my major frustrations with the previous blessings was the reliance on Angron’s return, or the luck of rolling for first turn charges. The new updates have shifted the army’s gameplay toward a more grinding style, encouraging players to unleash relentless attacks and activate lethal combinations. The introduction of Devastating Wounds versus infantry through rolling double 6’s or 3 3+ rolls adds a layer of excitement and anticipation that was previously lacking.

Overall, I’m thrilled with the changes made in this codex! The World Eaters now feel like a unique and aggressive army, offering a mix of mid-field presence, multi-small-unit damage options, and impressive ranged attacks. This is the playstyle I’ve been craving, and I can’t wait to put it to the test in upcoming battles.
