How to Activate a Portal

You can find portals scattered across all planets in a star system. But before you can jump through one, you need to learn how it works. This knowledge comes during the Artemis Path storyline, so make sure to dive into that quest.

Steps to Find a Portal

Finding a portal isn’t as straightforward as you might think, but don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here are a few essential steps to help you on your journey:

  1. Get an Exocraft: The best way to find a portal on any planet is by using an Exocraft (excluding the Minotaur). You’ll need to equip your Exocraft with the Exocraft Signal Booster Upgrade Tau. You can snag the blueprint for this upgrade at the Space Anomaly for some Nanites.
  2. Search for a Monolith: Your Exocraft will help you locate a Monolith first, which is key to finding the portal.

How to Find an Alien Monolith

While you might stumble upon a Monolith during your planetary exploration, that’s often a tedious process. A more efficient way? Buy a Planetary Chart for an ancient artifact site from a Cartographer at a Space Station. However, the chart might lead you to other historic sites or ruins, so it’s a bit hit-or-miss.

Instead, let’s stick to using your Exocraft for a quicker find:

  1. Head to Any Planet: Go to a planet where you’ve set up a base and summon your Exocraft. Ensure you have either an Exocraft Geobay or a Summoning Station in your Freighter.
  2. Activate the Radar: Jump into your Exocraft and use the quick menu to access the Exocraft Radar.
  3. Scan for Alien Structures: Select the “Scan for Alien Structure” option, and in no time, you’ll get the location of an Alien Monolith!

Time to Find That Portal!

Once you’ve located the Alien Monolith, make your way there and interact with it. It will present you with a cryptic challenge. If you answer correctly, it will allow you to interact with it again—failure to answer right means you can’t interact with that Monolith anymore.

If you’ve cracked the riddle, congratulations! Now it’s time to offer the Monolith a relic to unveil the portal’s location.

Choosing the Right Relic

The relic you need to offer depends on the dominant race in the star system:

  • Gek: Offer a Gek Relic.
  • Vy’keen: Present a Vy’keen Effigy.
  • Korvax: Hand over a Korvax Casing.

Make sure you have the correct relic in your inventory when you find the Monolith. You can usually purchase these relics from NPC pilots at trading posts in the game.
